Britain’s Hip Rock Import Kane makes a splash with a new CD

Just because the sensitive rock trio Keane sing about heartache and loss doesn’t mean they’re moping thier way through the summer. The Brits just played a World Cup halftime show, and Gwen Stefani wants to collaborate with them on her next album. The band-who’s just-released sophomore dic, Under the Iron Sea debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200- hits a high note with Us.

Coldplay connection Lead singer Tom Chaplin, 27, drummer Richard Hughes, 30, and songwriter-keyboard player Tim Rice-Oxley, 30, have been chums since thier schoolyard days in Kent, England, but they didn’t begin playing together until the late 90’s. Trivia: Rice-Oxley and Chris Martin both attended University College London, where Martin unsuccessfully tried to recruit him for Coldplay.

Sex, drugs, and rock & roll? Please. “A lot of things that come from being famous- adulation, money, a big crew of people working for you- are quite distracting,” Chaplin tells Us. The groups biggest perk? “We get to make music every day,” he says. “Not many people are living their dream!”

A rough patch Though the band almost split up due to tow tough years of touring, a Behind the Music is far off. Says Chaplin, “We’re trying to realize that if something doesn’t go the way you want it to, it’s not the end of the world.”
