Band unveil new LP at secret gig
06 April 06 – Keane marked the completion of their new album Under The Iron Sea with a secret gig and a playback of the record in London last night (5 April).
Around 200 were invited to meet at a lift on the concourse of London Bridge station, they were then taken into the dark and dank arches underneath it.
As fans were led through a secret passageway, they walked past scenes which had been ‘constructed’ to look like film sets or art installations with shoes dancing, candelabras spinning and a Victorian dress strung from the ceiling dripping water into an empty suitcase.
After the invited audience has been treated to a bizarre mix tape that included INXS and Doves, frontman Tom Chaplin introduced the playback of their second album saying: “This is probably a record that will shock you and excite you in equal measure.”
He said the band had a difficult and intense time recording it, and continued: “It is pretty bleak in places, it’s going to sound like there are guitars on this record but there aren’t.”
Following the playback, a curtain dropped to the floor to reveal a separate room where the band were on stage. They than launched into a surprise 20-minute set which included forthcoming single, Is It Any Wonder?, and new album tracks Nothing In My Way, Atlantic and Crystal Ball.
Under The Iron Sea is out 19 June. The tracklisting is: Atlantic, Is It Any Wonder?, Nothing In My Way, Leaving So Soon, A Bad Dream, Hamburg Song, Put It Behind You, Crystal Ball, Try Again, Broken Toy and The Frog Prince.
